4 Reasons Your Resume Didnt Get You a Job Interview

4 Reasons Your Resume Didnt Get You a Job InterviewYou spent hours crafting what you thought was the perfect resume. You sent it out with your applicationwhich also took hours of your lifeand nothing. You never hear back from that company and youre right back to where you started. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display(div-gpt-ad-1467144145037-0) ) Here are 4 reasons your resume might have ended up in the shredder.1. You fell prey to ATSMost companies that have an online application have whats called an Applicant Tracker System (ATS), designed to weed out the majority of applicants. You probably have a less than 5% chance of getting an bewerbungsinterview when you apply online like this. Learn how to bypass any ATS and land you that interview.2. You were too braggyYou miss-stepped on the fine tightrope between confident and over-confident, between perfect for the job and full-of-yourself. If you think this may have been the case with your resume, get an objective second opi nion. You can always dial down the self-praise a few ticks.3. Your LinkedIn is out of dateLots of recruiters will actually compare your resume to your online profiles. If what they see doesnt match, theyll assume youre being dishonest about somethingin one forum or the other. Make sure to keep your LinkedIn profile updated side-by-side with your resume and this wont be a problem.4. You didnt include numbersYou didnt put enough quantity into your qualities. Make sure when selling your accomplishments, you include a few facts and figures that the recruiter can take to the hiring manager to show you can deliver when it counts.Make one of these faux pas? Never fear. At least now you know. Fix these problems, then concentrate on making your resume good enough to convince a recruiter in six seconds or less. Then try and get it in front of actual humans, through new or existing connections.

How Your Boss REALLY Feels About What Time You Start Work

How Your Boss REALLY Feels About What Time You Start Work Do anfhreres really care about what time you start work?I spoke with a Senior Vice President of Human Resources at a Fortune 100 company who said, Start and end times is there such a thing nowadays? In a world where we check our schmelzglas before we get out of bed in the morning and right before we go to sleep, thats a fair question. The short answer is yes. The longer answer ties into many surprising factors that vary from each company, department, anfhrer and job. And the reasons why determine whether or not you build relationships that help you get bigger, more visible projects that lead to a promotion. To get a sense of best practices, I spoke with five bosses from five different industries technology, health care supply management, fashion, animation and consulting. The one thing they all had in common dont assume anything Here are five tips from five bosses1. Watch and learn. Transitioning into a new company or job comes with a million unspoken rules. Until you understand the culture, play it safe. The best person to watch and learn from is your boss. Bosses who start early naturally favor those who do the same, even when they say they dont care. If Your boss might say she doesnt care when you come in but if she is at the office every single day by 9 a.m. she probably cares more than shes willing to admit. The bottom line Pay attention to what others are doing (especially your boss) and follow suit.2. Ask questions. If you arent completely sure, your boss would rather have you ask a silly question than assume you know the answer. If you dont feel comfortable asking your boss, ask a colleague. Or better yet, ask several colleagues to be sure youre getting the full picture and not just one opinion. The bottom line Ask rather than assume.3. Be responsive. The murkiness of start times comes from our instant and constant access to email. Does your day start when you roll over in bed and check your work ema il before you even get dressed? Or does it start when you physically show up? All bosses I spoke with agreed that they want to see your answers in a timely way. Not sure what timely means? Ask Some companies have a guideline for what responsive means for them, typically 24 hours. The bottom line Many bosses dont care when you start work as long as you are responsive.4. Show you care. All the bosses I spoke with agreed that you cant fake a good attitude. They care more that youre responsive, inquisitive and willing to do whatever it takes to get your job done rather than sitting at your desk at 9 a.m. Answer your emails in a timely manner and let your boss know if youre overwhelmed. If you let things slide, its easy for your boss to interpret that as not caring about your job.The bottom line Your boss cares about your attitude, enthusiasm, and pride in your work.5. Make your boss look good. Everyone wants to get ahead and look good to her boss, including your boss. If you buck the tre nds in 1 - 4 above and other people start complaining about you, your boss will look bad. It doesnt matter how good your work is when your boss has to spend time defending you or her decision to keep you on. Make your boss into your ally. The bottom line Your boss will be more apt to promote you when youre allies.--Melissa Hereford will teach you how to negotiate with confidence. Report unveils a workforce for Australias future

Report unveils a workforce for Australias future Report unveils a workforce for Australias futurePosted April 17, 2013, by Molly Wiltshire-Bridle A highly skilled and adaptable workforce will ensure that Australia remains globally competitive, according to a new report released by the Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency (AWPA). The report, entitled Future focus, 2013 National Workforce Development Strategy, presents a series of key recommendations on how Australia can develop its knowledge economy and workforce to meet current and future needs. With an additional 3.5 million people expected to enter the workforce by 2025, the report projects a growing need for higher-level qualifications. Improving our skills and increasing our productivity will be vital in sustaining Australias economic growth and prosperity, says AWPA chair, Philip Bullock. By 2025, more than 70 per cent of Australias workforce will have post-school qualifications, and three out of five new jobs will be te chnical, professional or managerial. Economic restructuring will continue, maybe at an even faster pace, hence a critical element will be Australians having the skills they need to adapt to the change and transitions which occur. It will also be critical that those on the margins have access to new skills so they can re-integrate into the workforce. None of this is easy, however Australia has a solid base upon which we can build, says Bullock. In light of the research findings, the Future focus, 2013 National Workforce Development Strategy report has set forth a series of recommendations, including Increasing the pool of tertiary qualifications by three per cent per annum Enhancing access to government funding for workplace training and development Lifting workforce participation rates by adopting a range of measures to better include marginal workers Sustained focus on improving national language, literacy and numeracy levels Continuing to lift the quality of the tertiary sector, b y introducing external assessment of selected VET courses By adopting these recommendations, Australia will be making an investment in skills which will better enable us to prepare for the future. In a fiscally constrained environment, we believe that the benefits of this investment will far outweigh the cost, says Bullock. 5 Innovative Medical Technologies for 2018, Part 2 5 Innovative Medical Technologies for 2018, Part 2 5 Innovative Medical Technologies for 2018, Part 2Part 1 of 5 Innovative Medical Technologies showcased the latest technologies for personal fitness, wellness, and health monitoring on display at the 2018 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show, held January 9-12 in Las Vegas, NV. Among other innovations, devices for diabetes monitoring and vorderteil eines schiffs repellents were highlighted. Here, we look at devices for stroke rehabilitation, proper hydration, and more, all of which won recognition in the CES Innovation Awards showcase.Different Stroke in NeurorehabilitationIn the United States, stroke is the third-leading cause of death and the number 1 cause of serious long-term disability, striking 795,000 people every year. The tragedy of strokes high death rate is compounded by the hundreds of thousands of people every year who survive their stroke but are left with life-alte ring physical or cognitive disabilities requiring extensive rehabilitation. Thanks to advances in the study of neuroplasticity the brains ability to rewire itself to restore lost function researchers are making strides in technologies that help patients regain capabilities faster. Neofect, a company with several such innovations in its portfolio, has developed the RAPAEL Smart Pegboard, a gamified training tool designed to help stroke patients redevelop grasp and dexterity. The digital rehabilitation device uses high-intensity LEDs and audio cues to help users perform game-like exercises requiring the placement of pegs into specific holes on the board. Games that require memorization, pattern recognition, fast reflexes and hand-eye coordination are included.Extreme PreventionThe Neurostylus helps people with diabetes detect loss of sensation in their extremities.Another product designed to help diabetes patients keep on top of their peripheral nerve and blood vessel health was fea tured in the CES Innovation Award showcase. The Neurostylus is a device-app combination people with diabetes can use to detect loss of sensation in their extremities. Frequent monitoring of sensation could help detect the early signs of neuropathy a common diabetes complication causing severe nerve damage and poor circulation. The device connects to a smart phone, on which the user selects from a menu of test modes. To operate the device, the user places the Neurostylus in contact with the targeted site on the body and begins the test, which directs pre-selected vibration frequencies to the targeted site. When the user stops feeling the vibrations, he or she stops the test and the results are stored on the smart phone app for physician review. Also for You Find out how researchers are eliminating insulin injectionsDrinking SolutionTaking the idea of proper hydration to a new level, LifeFuels has developed a personalized beverage technology that enables active types to concoct person alized all-natural health drinks on the go. ETraining vs InPerson Training

ETraining vs InPerson Training ETraining vs InPerson Training Though statistics on penetration and effectiveness are scarce, electronic learning/training (e-learning), and remote learning are entering mainstream engineering instruction and are competing with in-person training. Which is more appropriate for which students and for what subject matter?R. D. Garrick, Ph.D., P.E., associate professor of manufacturing and mechanical engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY, believes that desired learning outcomes, and not subject matter (for example, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics) determines the suitability of e-learning and in-person instruction.Garrick, whose institution provides both traditional classroom and remote instruction, sees the benefit in reversing the traditional classroom lecture/offsite homework model to a model in which students experience lectures or other instructional material remotely or electronically, but solve problems in a classroom se tting. This paradigm allows students to consume educational materials as quickly or slowly as they wish, while working through problems in large but well-monitored groups. If the instructional objective is to build intellectual bridges between instructors and students through analogies, metaphors, images, or simulations, this can be accommodated through e-learning, Garrick says. But learning outcomes that involve problem-solving or understanding points of view are best conveyed in person, where the instruction can be personalized.Online training is cost-effective for students in remote locations or who are employed at traditional jobs. The downside is a lack of interaction. For example, there is a lack of focus on student body language or facial reactions to instructional elements. And some students or trainees feel more comfortable asking questions in a live environment than zugreifbar.Attempts to classify knowledge and delivery methods systematically produces interesting ideas. Byr on Newberry, Ph.D., P.E., associate professor of mechanical engineering at Baylor University, Waco, TX, refers to Blooms Taxonomy, a model for learning objectives that suggests a hierarchy of learning levels. These are, from lowest to highest knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. At the lower levels, people simply know facts and comprehend ideas, Newberry says. Facts and ideas combine and rearrange uniquely at the higher levels, which is where complex decisions are synthesized.Impersonal, electronic education works better at the lower levels, where electronic media easily communicate basic information. Engineers already familiar with design codes readily learn code amendments through an electronic medium because they are already familiar with the concepts. A design code novice likely will need in-person training because application of design is far from straightforward. Engineers must judge when a code applies and when it doesnt, how to resolve code conflicts, and how to select one design over another when both meet code requirements. These judgments, Newberry observes, depend not only on the codes but on the unique context of the problem. Experiential knowledge at the higher levels of Blooms Taxonomy, he argues, is not condensed easily into generic principles that fit onto a DVD. Having interaction with an experienced person is crucial to the learning process.Yet significant exceptions exist. Raman Unnikrishnan, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, California State University, Fullerton, CA, notes that top hardware and software companies already provide online troubleshooting, for example, which involves judgment and evaluation that fall under higher-level activities.Fullerton soon will introduce an online M.S. program in environmental engineering that follows the success of an online software engineering course. Yet he disagrees with the application of taxonomic rules to decide on the mode of instructi on.Unnikrishnan points out that remote learning and collaboration have become crucial elements some would say competencies for software developers. Software developed in Los Angeles gets handed over to programmers in Ireland for the next shift, and on to Bangalore before returning to California the next day.E-training for hands-on coursework would not be as successful, he says. We have a large machine shop here. You can teach the basics through electronic media, but learning to operate the equipment, rendering complex shapes, and understanding safety and compliance has to be done on site.E-learning works best, Unnikrishnan says, with self-motivated individuals and materials that build on the students previous knowledge. Thus, classroom interaction may be critical for 101-level courses, but not for graduate work where students are already familiar with the basics. Although, he admits, There isnt a very strong research base for what Im claiming.Angelo DePalma is an independent write r.Online training is cost-effective for students in remote locations or who are employed at traditional jobs. The downside is a lack of interaction.

10 causes of doubt stopping you from your best

10 causes of doubt stopping you from yur best10 causes of doubt stopping you from your bestIf you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced. ? Vincent Willem van GoghIm going to let you in on a big secret that is going to stop you right in your tracks and boost your confidence You have the ideas, beliefs and courage to live the life you truly want. You may not have every piece of the puzzle just yet. You may not have the blueprint or plan. And perhaps you havent yet activated your dreams. But this whole thing called life - and living it on YOUR terms - isnt nearly as complicated as WE make it out to be. Its not others who are culpable of making things more complicated for us. Its ourselves. Its called doubt and it can cripple the best of us - even those of us who are motivated, self-aware and full of dreams and positive energy. As Ive written about previously, we rarely talk much about doubt. It can be embarrassing. We beco me self-conscious and unwilling to want to admit to others - much less ourselves - how much it may be robbing us of the life we want. Its worth opening up the conversation on this pernicious enemy, largely because its the secret battle all of us fight - and many of us are (ironically) to fearful to open up about.According to Merriam-Webster, doubt is, to call into question the truth of to be uncertain. It is also to demonstrate a lack of confidence. The key to a happy, purpose-driven life is a foundation of faith and confidence. You must believe in yourself. You must trust your thoughts and how you will respond to all the events and stimuli in your life. When you are confident, you believe that anything is possible. You think more clearly, with an open-mind and heart. Youre willing to reject fear, take risks and better identify with your positive and negative emotions. Confidence permeates your thoughts and drives your actions. Doubt crushes them.Through deep reflection, we can rea lize that doubt, when analyzed in isolation, can actually help us frame up what matters fruchtwein to us. Every time I know Im on the right track, I intuitively feel it. Hopefully you do, too. You know its right, you lean into it and let the positive energy propel you forward. Here, youre able to dissect doubt and understand that its just a part of the human experience.Ive learned there are 10 major causes of doubt. Its not just important to identify these causes, its imperative for us to combat them, and have a plan to triumph over what can sink us, if we let it. Read these through. Come back to these during moments of weakness. You already have what it takes. You just need these tools and techniques to help you embrace the challenges of each day.1. Doubt of what others may think of your new, bold future plansYou want to launch your own consulting business. You want to become an artist or software developer full-time. Maybe you just want to change careers, try out something youve a lways loved but have been too afraid to do, or maybe you want to go all in with committing to that special person in your life. And yet, once you find your mind moving forward, it seems like your legs buckle and suddenly youre stuck. How could I possibly let someone elses spoken opinion, or my own perception, prevent me from moving in a direction my head and heart are leading me toward? My coaching work, as well as academic research, has led me to believe that this is the number one cause of doubt that leads to inaction. We doubt ourselves because we worry about what others may think of the ideas or plans that mean so much to us, that they couldnt possibly have enough knowledge and depth of understanding for.Solution Commit to a two-step plan Speak and write your future plans and desires over your life. Step one is to have the awareness and willingness to communicate these plans. Step two is having the courage and willingness to act on what you believe. Find time alone in solitude to do this exercise. Then, start implementing a erfahrungen to ensure you commit to action.2. Doubt of whether you have what it takes to do what you truly wantThis most closely resembles Impostor Syndrome. Either that youre not sure that you can succeed, or you doubt your previous accomplishments. No matter how accomplished or skilled you are, if you doubt who you are, youve already lost.Solution Develop a mantra. Mine is, Im really good at being me. I also use, Today is a big step closer to living the life I want. These are positive affirmations that we speak over our lives. Their inspirational and encouraging and they help feed our conscious and subconscious minds. They help us creating the story that we want to write over our lives.Believe in your infinite potential. Your only limitations are those you set upon yourself. Believe in yourself, your abilities and your own potential. Never let self-doubt hold you captive. You are worthy of all that you dream of and hope for. ? Roy T. Be nnett3. Doubt about whether you can overcome your pastThe coaching work Ive done has taught me that people get caught living in the past, and forget to be present for today and their future. This is where mindfulness comes in. Take this from the Harvard GSEBy approaching what you do with mindfulness, you decrease the amount of energy you spend worrying about the past or the future, and you increase the amount of attention you give to present and positive experiences. But because stress and worrying can be so ingrained, you have to practice (and keep practicing) the skills and habits you need to keep your attention on the present.Solution The truth is, most people arent really watching, or theyre so wrapped up and absorbed in their own affairs, theyre not even aware of any of your past struggles or stumbles. The doubt that plays on our minds is the perceived care that others are remembering us or thinking of us for our failures. Theyre probably not. But even if they are, isnt that gr eat motivation to re-write the ending to your Hollywood script?4. Doubt that the closest people in your life will understand and support youFor so long in my life, I was afraid to speak my biggest dreams to some of the people closest to me. Perhaps you have shared that same experience Its primarily fear-based, but also based on doubt that we will either be understood or accepted by those who love us the most.Have the courage to tell the people that love you the most to stand by your side with love and respect. Its your job to summon the conviction inside of you to believe in what youre doing so much, that youre willing to give it everything you have each day.Solution Overcome yourself and show vulnerability around what matters most to you. When you open up and show courage, peeling back the doubt that clouds your mind, youll find greater acceptance and love.5. Doubting yourself for the times that youve failed or made mistakesI love this from Denzel Washington, Fail BIGAnd from Jeff Bezos I believe we (Amazon)are the best place in the world to fail (we have plenty of practice), and failure and invention are inseparable twins, he said in his 2015 shareholder letter. Source ForbesThink about that One of the worlds most successful companies, as well as the richest people, thinks that failure and invention are inseparable twins.Solution Never be afraid to fail. Especially when youve given things deep thought, planned for what you want and given your all to your efforts.6. Doubt and loss of trust over how you communicate and interact with the people in your lifeIts a great thing to put ourselves in our minds eye and to look at ourselves objectively, but not to the point where it drives us crazy. The people who do this are overly analytical - to a fault. Let the game come to you, is one of my favorite quotes. It basically means, dont force things. Let things play out naturally. Be yourself and dont get too nervous.Solution You cant analyze your every move. You just have to proceed with confidence.7. Doubt about your appearance (both in your mind and how others may observe you)So youre not the famous image of yourself that you dreamed about. No one is The way to overcome this doubt is through acceptance. Accept who you are, faults and all. Exercise positivity to think of yourself in a more encouraging light. Practice self-care.Solution Draw up the exact image that you want of yourself. Not what others want. Who you really are. Start building toward that. Take a picture of yourself dressed, ready to go and living your best life. Put it on your desk and over your bed at night. Thats who you are.8. Doubt about finding a job opportunity or entrepreneurial path that will sustain youThis one resonates with me because Ive lived it. If youve struck out before, or if you find yourself staring with a blank face at your computer screen each day, knowing that youre not doing what you want to do, and you dont have the direction you need to change it, take h eart and dont doubt. You just havent found the answer yet. And youre still on the journey.Solution Start with this very basic question What do you want? Not what you think others expect of you and not what may seem to be the next logical step for where youve already been. What do you want based on your passion, skills, experience and natural talents? Once you know that answer, youll know the right way to go for making money and supporting yourself.9. Doubt about your biggest strengths and weaknessesSometimes we dont get started because we fear our weaknesses will hold us back, or that our strengths arent strong enough.Solution I highly recommend the Gallup StrengthsFinder assessment to better understand your strengths. Solicit feedback from people that you trust around areas where you need to improve. Write down what you believe your strengths to be and have that validated by other people. Get honest with yourself. Tell yourself the truth about what youre good at, and what you need to improve.Once you have this clarity, youll have the direction you need to move forward.10. Doubt that you can overcome the everyday temptations and negative desires that offer only temporary pleasure, but long-term painThis last one requires a steady heaping of faith, discipline and perseverance. A winning combination for anyone looking to overcome that which holds them back. We want to get better and improve our strengths and continue living our values and building toward what we want. But so much of life is about mitigating and reducing our weaknesses.Solution Be honest with yourself and do some self-examination. What are the things that youre doing in your life each day that hold you back? I like to think of this in the form of vices. It could be laziness, lustful thoughts, anger, even envious behavior. You are always empowered to take control of your own life and begin writing your masterpiece.Eliminate that which holds you back. Make it a habit to stop doing the things that a re adding only temporary pleasure. Because these very same things are causing long-term pain. How to Develop and Write a Career Action Plan Writing

How to Develop and Write a Career Action Plan WritingHow to Develop and Write a Career Action Plan WritingA career action plan is a roadmap that will take you from Point A (choosing an occupation) to Point B (getting a job and advancing in your career). Also referred to as an Individualized (or Individual) Career Plan or an Individualized (or Individual) Career Development Plan, it will help you reach your career goals. Before You Begin To begin developing a career action plan, first, choose an occupation. That endeavor usually requires a significant amount of effort. To simplify the task, or at least make it more orderly, follow the career planning process. It consists of multiple steps. The fourth and final is to create a career action plan. Steps one through three, in order, consist of Self Assessment During this step, use several self-assessment tools to learn about yourvalues, interests, aptitudes, and personality type. Your goal is to identify a list of suitable careers tha t match these traits. Ideally, there should be between 10 and 15 occupations on your list.Career ExplorationNow that you know what occupations are suitable based on your self-assessment, begin to explore the ones that interest you. Dont do an extensive investigation into every single career on your list- only ones that are real possibilities deserve that sort of attention- but at least read a brief decision as not to eliminate any options based on preconceived notions about them. The occupation that appears on the surface as something you wouldnt like could end up being the one that interests you the most once you learn more about it. Dig deeper into the careers that you would consider pursuing. Begin to narrow down your list to approximately three to five occupations. Make a MatchArmed with information about several careers, begin to make a final decision. Think about the pros and cons of each of your options. Consider job duties, educational requirements, earnings, and job outlook . Not only must you enjoy your work, but it also has to support your lifestyle financially and should have decent job prospects. It is imperative that you be able to fulfill the educational requirements. Choose the career that, based on this data, is the best fit for you. situation Your Goals Now that you have chosen a career, it is time to set goals which will make up the foundation of your career action plan. Include short-term objectives which you can reach in under a year and long-term ones that will take from one to five years to achieve. A career action plan is different than a simple list of goals. It also includes all the steps you will need to take to reach them. To get started First, brainstorm to come up with a list of all your goals. Remember this is your list, and no one is judging what you put on it.Categorize them into two categories short-term goals and long-term goals. Applying to college or a training program, for example, will take under a year and is, therefo re, a short-term goal while getting your degree or finishing the program is generally a long-term one.Identify any barriers that could threaten your ability to reach your goals and then figure out if and how you can overcome them. If you cant find viable solutions, you may need to reformulate your goals. If, for instance, you have a learning disability that could impede your ability to earn a degree, find a college that provides students with resources to help them succeed. Write Your Career Action Plan Finally, its time to write your career action plan. Your timeline for achieving your goals should start with your short-term ones and end with your primary objective, which at this point should be getting your first job. Some people find it helpful to begin their plan at the end. That is state the goal that will take the most time first, and work your way backward. There is no hard and fast rule, as long as your plan is easy for you to understand and follow. List each of your go als and indicate how long, approximately, it will take to achieve it. Then, beneath each one, write a bulleted list of every step reaching that goal will require. Include, as well, the barriers that might get in the way, along with workable solutions for overcoming them. Your career action plan should be flexible. Dont be afraid to make changes to it as you go. It may be necessary to add some short-term goals along the way. Once you reach your ultimate long-term goal, you may want to add another one, along with more short-term objectives to help you get there.
